“This year’s budget provides
record increases in state school aid to districts
throughout the state and Long Island. I have continued
to make increasing state aid to Long Island schools
one of my top priorities, and I am hopeful that
this year’s school aid will ensure that every
student on Long Island has access to the best possible
education and is equipped with the tools and resources
they need to be successful in today’s global
economy.
In addition to providing more state aid to schools,
this year’s budget also increases STAR rebate
check amounts for seniors and continues to give
middle-class families important short-term relief
from rising property taxes. By increasing state
school aid and delivering property tax relief, we
have taken important steps toward lowering Long
Island property tax bills.
We were also successful in preventing an increase
in state income taxes this year. With the state
and nation facing tough economic times, it would
be unconscionable for the legislature to raise income
taxes on the already over-taxed citizens of this
state.”
