Assemblyman Jim Conte (R,C,I,WF-Huntington Station)
will join the Huntington Elk Lodge No. 1565 and
the Boy and Girl Scouts of America in observance
of Flag Day with a Flag Retirement Ceremony, this
Saturday, June 14 at 10 am.
“Our flag stands as an enduring symbol of
our heritage and a beacon of liberty to the rest
of the world,” said Conte. “Flag day
reminds all of us of the sacrifices that have been
made by courageous men and women who risked their
lives to preserve our values, our freedoms and our
way of life. It is an honor to join the Huntington
Elk Lodge and the Boy and Girl Scouts of America
for our annual tribute and Flag Retirement Ceremony.”
Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the United
States flag, which officially occurred with the
passing of a resolution on June 14, 1777 by the
Second Continental Congress.
Since 2002, Assemblyman Conte has observed Flag
Day with a Flag Retirement Ceremony, to ensure that
worn and damaged American flags receive proper retirement
and disposal. Assemblyman Conte would like to encourage
everyone to attend the ceremony, which will be held
at the Huntington Elks Lodge, 195 Main Street.
